Juliano M. Vilke is a project fellow at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research of the University of Algarve. He obtained his M.Sc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2023 from the Santa Catarina State University (UDESC), BR. He works with marine ecotoxicology, evaluating the effects posed by metals and emerging contaminants (e.g. micro and nano-plastics, plastic-released chemicals, and pharmaceuticals) in marine organisms, with an emphasis on mollusc bivalves. Currently, he is working on assessing the deep-sea mining threats on the marine biota (namely mussels, anemones and shrimps) in the DEEP-REST project (
