B. Lopes graduated in Marine Biology and concluded her PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology: Aquatic Environment. Her research focused on environmental contamination by petroleum hydrocarbons and exposure/effect biomarkers, used on environmental monitoring and risk assessment as an early warning of impairment. Later B.Lopes concluded her Post-Doctoral research in the assessment of environmental contaminants in a human cohort from South Portugal in relation to health effects and health risk evaluation. She developed her research on mother/child environmental exposure to organochlorine pesticides (OPs), PCBs, bisphenol A, and endocrine disrupter (ED) xenoestrogens, as well as a human biomarker for estrogenic/antiestrogenic effects.
