Isabel Mendes is a PhD Researcher at CIMA. She has a degree in Marine Biology (field: Marine Ecology) and a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences (field: Oceanography). During the last years, she has been devoted to understanding the present and past environmental conditions that occurred in coastal areas from the southern Iberian Peninsula, at different temporal scales, related to climatic variability and anthropogenic impacts. She is also contributing to defining measures for mitigating climate change by evaluating the potential benefits and risks of alkalinity enhancement in intertidal environments.

Benchmarking results of her work were published in high-impact journals in the field of Geosciences and Micropaleontology and disseminated over several communications on conferences. She is the principal researcher in one project and researcher in several other national and international projects. Since 2019, she is an invited teacher at the University of Algarve, in the areas of climate change impact and biogeochemistry. She collaborated with more than 100 researchers in co-authoring scientific publications.
