The University of Algarve (UAlg) and the Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) organised a International Conference "Sustainable Development of the Oceans: A Useful Utopia: A Useful Utopia" in honour of Professor Mario Ruivo, last 14th and 15th of November (Green auditorium, University of Algarve). The objective was "to evoke the contribution of this marine biologist, an honorary doctor of UAlg, for the development of marine sciences and technologies, with notable impacts at national and international levels."
The initiative also had the support of the EurOcean Office and the following research centres: CIIMAR (University of Porto), CESAM (University of Aveiro) and MARE (several Portuguese universities).
