Raúl Barros (BSc Chemical Engineering, PhD Biotechnology, 1999) is Assistant Professor at Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Algarve, Since May 2000, lecturing in BSc and MSc Biotechnology and Biological Engineering and Environmental Engineering MEng subjects related to Bioprocess Technology and Environmental Technology. He integrates the Engineering and Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory, where his research focuses Environmental Biotechnology, specifically use of microbial systems to treat wastewater or drinking water, or to carry out valorization of residues, wastes and effluents. He as supervised 1 PhD thesis and over 20 Master theses and has been involved in 8 national funded research projects and technological development projects, supported by industrial enterprises. He is the co-author of 15 peer-reviewed articles published in international scientific journals and of two portuguese patents.
