    Isabel Mendes, graduated in Marine Biology (field: Marine Ecology) at the University of Algarve in 1999. In the same year, she joined the CIACOMAR/University of the Algarve research team as grantee researcher. In 2010, she obtained her PhD in Marine Sciences (field: Oceanography), at the University of the Algarve, on a collaborative orientation with GEOMAR (Germany). She was awarded with a post-doctoral grant funded by the FCT, in April 2011 to 2017. At present, she is assistant researcher, which aim to provide reliable key indicator benthic foraminiferal species to assess present and past environmental conditions, on coastal ecosystems, which have been affected by climatic changes and human activities, through time.

    My scientific interests are focused on benthic foraminifera as environmental indicators of recent and past conditions. Understand the paleoenvironmental changes occurred on continental shelf areas from the southern Iberian Peninsula, at different temporal scales, related with climatic changes, sea-level variations, and anthropogenic impact in the global context of the North Atlantic. At present, I am also interested to develop and validate alternative methods to assess the environmental quality status of coastal environments by using benthic foraminiferal bioindicators.
