    Helena M. Galvão (BSc, MMSc from USA and PhD from Germany) is an Associate professor with 30 years research and teaching experience in Marine Microbial Ecology. She has been coordinator of several regional, national and EU projects dealing with Ocean Margin Exchange of the Vigo coast,  toxic cyanobacteria blooms in the Guadiana estuary, microbial processes in Algarve coastal zone and in the Ria Formosa lagoon. She has supervised many Master, PhD and several post-doctoral students with research scope spanning from marine pathology, microbiological water quality, biogeochemistry, cyanobacteria toxicity, bacteria and phytoplankton dynamics. She has published over 30 research papers and a book chapter in water management.
