RN I: Marine and transitional aquatic processes

RN I focuses on the physical and chemical processes that affect both marine and transitional systems. It is structured around four key tasks:

  • Physical and Chemical connectivity:

Observation-based characterization of the physico-chemical processes that control trophic webs (including the microbial dynamics) and affect ecological processes.

  • Microbial Dynamics and Processes:

Characterisation of microbial dynamics with phytoplankton as a sentinel of climate change.

  • Ecohydrology in transitional zones:

Ecohydrological approach for the assessment of forcings on transitional zones.

  • Models and measurement of transfer phenomena:

Modelling activities (hydrodynamics, morphodynamics and ecology) are based on observational data and analysis from the other Key Tasks of the RN (and others).
